What happens when an insecure group of online roleplayers find themselves in a living nightmare?
…More tragic backstories, of course!
Here are some of my thoughts on the new story quest.
I loved this patch. Awesome new environment, cool new bosses, and Banyue being super cool, Sarah being Sarah. The only thing I haven’t done yet is Lucia’s Agent Story.
Spook Shack is great. As a terminally online nerd, it’s refreshing to see that kind of character played straight: just a group of friends having a good time together! I liked that about Astra Yao as well; it felt more organic for Wise and Belle to meet her in person after befriending her online as Chaotic Fried Rice.
I thought it was really cute that Lucia was taking ghost story notes during the investigation, and that Komano Manato even brought her along in the first place. Both of them have really strong character moments and backstories, as well.
This was definitely the Komano Manato patch! I love the “big tough guy with a heart of gold” trope. Seeing him interact with his siblings was precious, and of course, his tragic backstory was done well. He always struck me as someone who grew up poor and got taken advantage of.
I hope we get to see more of Lucia and Yidhari soon; there was a lot of interesting stuff with them. I would love to see them interact with Alice and Yuzuha, as well.
As the world’s number one fox enjoyer, I immediately fell in love with Ye Shunguang’s in game model. She’s SO cute!! I really hope that she and her brother are both playable soon; I have been waiting for both of them!
Gameplay-wise, all three new characters are really fun. Yidhari’s hammer charge attack is pretty unique and I like it, but I do NOT need another ice character on my account, since I have Miyabi and Hugo plus both of their weapons.
I managed to pull M6 Manato! But lost my 50/50 on Lucia, so I’ll have to get lucky to get her before the banner ends.
